{"id":6547,"date":"2022-06-27T11:14:52","date_gmt":"2022-06-27T09:14:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onepercentforanimals.org\/program-ocean-protection\/"},"modified":"2022-09-15T14:23:34","modified_gmt":"2022-09-15T12:23:34","slug":"program-ocean-protection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onepercentforanimals.org\/en\/program-ocean-protection\/","title":{"rendered":"Program: Ocean Protection"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Launched in June 2022 during the trip to Reunion Island organized with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ultrapremiumdirect.com\/\">Ultra Premium Direct<\/a>, the Ocean Protection Program aims to protect marine biodiversity.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nowadays, consumable products are largely made of <\/span><b>single-use plastic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a plastic that constitutes more than <\/span><b>60% of marine pollution<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Between  <\/span><b>19 and 23 million tons<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  of plastic enter the world&#8217;s waters each year. This waste degrades gradually until it becomes micro-waste, which is very often  <\/span><b>ingested by marine life<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The YouCare Association and the 1% For Animals Label have therefore imagined a program whose main objective would be to implement concrete actions <\/span><b>to protect marine life and its habitat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thanks to this new project, financed by the patrons of the 1% For Animals Label and the donors of the YouCare Association, we are taking concrete action by implementing <\/span><b>3 major actions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Decrease in beach and ocean pollution:&nbsp;<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Label organizes many <strong>Clean Walks<\/strong> directly with YouCare teams or in partnership with YouCare network member associations in order to<strong>eliminate a maximum of waste<\/strong> that could eventually land in the sea because of the wind. The organization of these Clean Walks also allows us to raise awareness of the consequences of a small piece of waste on marine life and biodiversity.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To date, <strong>50 tons of waste<\/strong> have been removed from the oceans thanks to the 1% For Animals Label and YouCare projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"R\u00e9sultat de la Clean Walk \u00e0 la R\u00e9union\" width=\"1080\" height=\"810\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xCFSxFTqwCE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><b>Creation of a coral nursery:&nbsp;<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Label sets up collaborative projects with the member associations of the YouCare network, which also includes the <strong>restoration of the natural habitat of marine life<\/strong>. Corals are home to 25% of aquatic life, which is why the <strong>creation of coral reefs<\/strong> is essential to the survival of marine life.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between 2009 and 2018, already 14% of corals have disappeared and this figure is only increasing. We will therefore create our <strong>own coral nursery<\/strong> to restore the marine habitat of an important part of the marine biodiversity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-7059\" src=\"https:\/\/associationyoucare.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/pe%CC%81pinie%CC%80re-de-corail.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\"><\/p>\n<h3><b>Safeguarding marine life:&nbsp;<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the IUCN, all the species of marine turtles are in the &#8220;threatened species&#8221; category.
